Top 5 Songs for Every Mood

I feel that music is a very powerful thing. Music is all around everyone everyday. It is an inescapable part of our culture. In the car people listen to the radio, cds or their mp3 players. In almost every store and restaurant music plays in the background. For most people music plays from their cell phone when someone calls. At the gym people are usually found plugged into their iPods. In clubs and bars, music is a vital aspect to the atmosphere. For me, music can enhance or shift any mood I am in. I have compiled a list of, what I think, are tops songs for every mood. Feel free to disagree, modify and add to the subsequent lists.

Happy: These songs always put me in a great mood no matter how I am feeling at the time. Whether I’m in the car for a long drive, having a crappy day or even if I am in a good mood, I can count on these songs to brighten my day.

Eagle Eye Cherry “Save Tonight”

Lady Antebellum “Lookin’ for a Good Time”

MGMT “Electric Feel”

Peter Bjorn and John “Young Folks”

The Matches “Wake the Sun”

Sad: Sometimes it is the lyrics and sometimes it is the composition of the music itself that make these songs perfect for those sad moods. They are beautiful, poetic and emotional. They are just the thing for those sad, depressing moments in our lives when we need a little comforting.

Tim McGraw “Red Rag Top”

Third Eye Bling “Slow Motion”

Augustana “Angels”

Hinder “Lips of An Angel”

Ben Folds “Golden Slumbers”

Angry: So I don’t really like listening to “angry” music because normally I am in a good mood and listening to these songs just makes me, well, angry. But sometimes I am in a truly sour mood and so I turn to these songs, turn up the volume really loud and sing out my aggression.

Rise Against “Like the Angel”

Injected “Burn it Black”

Tool “Roseta Stoned”

3oh!3 “Punk B****”

Vs. the World “If I Died”

Romantic: If you don’t have a special someone, these songs could also be filed under the “Sad” category. I always wonder how artists who write such beautiful songs can be single. These songs will make your palms clammy, heart race, and set the butterflies in your stomach free.

Michael Buble “Everything”

Goo Goo Dolls “Iris”

Taylor Swift “Love Story”

Minus the Bear “When We Escape”

Damien Rice “Cannonball”

Dance/Party: These songs are guaranteed to get people out of their seats and jumping around. No matter your age or sex, unless you have been living under a rock your whole life, you should know the words to these songs and be able to belt out these dance anthems along with the rest of the crowd.

Lady GaGa “Just Dance”

Kevin Rudolf “Let it Rock”

ACDC “You Shook Me All Night”

Kelly Clarkson “Since You’ve Been Gone”

Journey “Don’t Stop Believing”

Chill/Calming: My mood usually falls under this category and so I have three or more playlists that fit this category. Consequently, it was nearly impossible to choose these last five songs. Their peaceful, melodic rhythms are perfect for long car rides, watching sunsets, and contemplating life’s biggest questions.

As Tall As Lions “The Carousel”

Susanna and the Magical Orchestra “Love Will Tear Us Apart”

Cat Power “Wild is the Wind”

The Guggenheim Grotto “Philosophia”

Cricket Rumor Mill “Give Me a Day”
